OBSERVATIONS 2 - THE FIRST OBSERVATION

Putting into practice the techniques from Observations 1 and Principles of Appraisal.

For this first observation using the standard approach, do the following in preparation:

1. Review your notes from the discussion after observing Phil using the approach.
2. Go through your notes from the pre-observation meeting.
3. Ensure you have a clear picture of the lesson that you are about to observe.
4. Check the teacher is happy to discuss the effectiveness of the observation approach at the feedback stage.
5. If the teacher is willing, arrange for a colleague to observe you observing the lesson.

Hold the observation and answer the following questions:

1. What did you find most difficult about using the standard approach?
2. What would you differently in the next observation?
3. What was the feedback from the teacher about the approach?
4. What comments from the observer were most useful?
5. What was easiest about using the standard approach?
6. Is the approach effective in your opinion? Why / Why not?

Email Phil with your responses.
